The file structure tool can be very slow and often times bring visual studio to a complete halt for several seconds particularly on very large files. I've uploaded a performance trace called R#6.1-FileStructure1.dtp that demonstrates this on a very large XML file, but I've also noted this behavior on XAML and CS files.
This also seems to have a permanent effect on editing of all files in visual studio. Even after closing the document which originally caused the slow-down, editor performance is significantly degraded. Restarting VS is required to get performance back to normal.
