Our license server at work died over the weekend. I did the following, and now I get strange editor behaviour.
What I did to cause the issue:
1. Come into work with my machine still on and notice that the license server has gone down.
2. Click cancel on the dialog. This disables Resharper features as expected.
3. I notified I.T. and they started working to fix the issue. After about 30 minutes I noticed that the machine that runs the license server was up by pinging it.
4. I went to the Visual Studio options, selected Resharper, then selected Suspend then Resume. [At this point the license sever is not up so the machine actively refuses the connection]
5. The licensing dialog opens, showing the failure to connect. I then click Cancel again.
6. This leaves the Visual Studio options window open on Resharper options. However, no buttons respond when clicked and I cannot close the dialog.
7. I hit End Task in the Task Manager and Visual Studio catches it, saying that a modal dialog is open preventing user input. I choose to close Visual Studio and save my solution.
8. I re-open Visual Studio, and it brings up the license dialog again. I click Cancel.
At this point the behaviour is really strange. The editor accepts text input (e.g. characters), but non-text characters (e.g. backspace and delete) do not work. I can navigate with the mouse, but the arrow keys don't navigate and the correct sequence of arrow keys will open the drop-down at the top of my editor showing the list of classes in my current file. If I go to the options it shows that Resharper is running without the error text saying it cannot contact the license server (to clarify the double negative - there is no error displayed). Clicking Suspend and Options does nothing.
I cannot find a way out of this state, so I am planning to re-install.
