Currently, it's an up or down arrow, which is counterintuitive as neither is associated with an open or close state.
If you have an empty region, you can never know if it's really empty or just collapsed, as the icon does not tell its state.
Standard tree icons should be used, either classic plus/minus, or Vista tree view arrows, where an empty right-pointing triangle-arrow indicates a collapsed node, a filled bottom-right-pointing triangle-arrow indicates an expanded node, and a nonexpandable node does not have an arrow at all.
